Laptop Acting Very Strange....

My laptop was working fine 2 days ago. When I boot up my laptop, it takes forever to login and start up the laptop (loading of desktop, etc...). After around 10 mins, the speed becomes somewhat normal again. However, when I shut down the laptop, it takes forever to actually shut it down. What can the problem be?
