For the last two years I was one happy user of Norton Anti-Virus. Never had virus infections, parasites or any system problems. But the day before last I updated the program. Everything still was fine. But upon the next computer reboot Norton AntiVirus just didn't work as usually.

First of all, the Auto-Protect didn't load. Now every time I restart my system I get the following error: "Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect Driver could not be loaded. Your system is not protected from viruses. Please restart your computer." I did 6 reboots and the problem still persists. Furthermore, Norton AntiVirus started to crash unexpectedly while loading its main screen.

What should I do? How can I fix this problem? I tried everything I know, even reinstalled the program, but no luck. I really don't want to dump my NAV subscription.

Hi
Your problem is not unique. A lot of NAV users encounter similar errors. I suggest trying this solution from Symantec.

Thanks for the information, brainiac. I followed those instructions and eventually was able to fix the Auto-Protect issue. However, NAV still crashes. No matter what I try this problem is still there.

Here's an update relating to Norton Anti-Virus problems.

Today I turned on my computer and Windows was unable to start. I decided to make a clean reinstall (2 years old system was really slooow). I also installed and updated Norton AntiVirus. Gues what? It doesn't have any problems now! Shocked Auto-Protect works fine and the application doesn't crash no more. Cool

Of course, reinstalling the system is not a solution, but it really works  .

1. The system date appears on the Window taskbar. To check the date, hold your mouse pointer over the clock in the right side of your taskbar. The date appears in a few seconds.

2. Do one of the following:
* If the date is correct the go to STEP 2.
* If the date is not correct then go to next line.

3. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Settings > Control Panel.

4. Double-click the Date/Time icon.

5. Select the appropriate year, month, and day.

6. Click Apply.

7. Click OK.

8. Restart the computer.

9. Do the following, depending on whether the date is correct now or not:

* If the date is correct and you no longer see the problem, then you are finished.
* If the date is correct and the problem continues, go to STEP 3.
* If the date is incorrect, then uninstall Norton AntiVirus, restart the computer, and examine the date again. Click on 'What if this didn't work' given below.
10. Do the following, depending on whether the date is correct now or not:
* If the date is still incorrect, the CMOS battery has a problem or the date in the computer's BIOS is not set correctly. Consult your computer documentation or contact the manufacturer of the computer for help with replacing the CMOS battery or correcting the date in the BIOS.

Hi

I had have the same issue with Norton before I've AVG anti virus. Since the anti virus application is only one level of global protection solution, check your PC and Internet activities to decide which solution best suits your needs. If your computer is using the Internet most of the time, you play a game based on the Internet, or store highly sensitive documents into the system, so AVG may work better for you. If the size of the computer time, which is a little surfing, e-mail or write personal letters, and then Norton should work fine.

Hi i recently installed norton utilities, internet security 2011 on my windows 7 pc, now I cannot gained acces to facebook, hotmail or youtube. I tried to uninstall norton as this seemed to be causing the problem, which I think uninstalled successfully but I still cannot gain access to the sites in question and have no clue what to do now. I have done a system restore which made no difference also. Any suggestions?
