Hello,

My program a-squared Free - Version 3.1 says that the program I downloaded - Hazard Shield 1.7.0.0 - has its main file "shield.exe" infected with the following trojan.

<Backdoor.Win32.mIRC-based.d>

Everywhere I look on the Internet this trojan is described as one of the worst possible infections to get, however none of the ohter programs that I have used on this file have registered any infection.

I have NOD 32 Version 2.50 running permantely and and checked the offending file with it as well as checking with AVG anti-spyware.

All the programs I used are absolutely up-to-date

Not only did these two fail to find anything but I ran the on-line Kaspersky scan, as well as SpyDoctor and stil nothing.

Does anyone know what is going on? Perhaps a known false positive?

Thanks,

Craigrot

hello,
hazard shield is not a malicious software, if you want to remove it, look for uninstall option or open control panel on your computer, click on 'add/remove programs' and find hazard shield on the list.

I reccomend Spyware Doctor and Malwarebytes’ Anti-malware as ultimate protection.

Hello Bobby,

Thank-you for replying so quickly. Yes, I undestand that Hazard Shield is not SUPPOSED to be spyware but the results from a2 are worrying.

Apart from my results, both negative and positive, several other people who downloaded the software as a result of information given by PCWorld have also registered the same result with a2 and, as of today, PCWorld has not replied to any of the enquiries from these people.

I haven't actually installed the program, precisely because of the a2 warning and it seems to be a good program from the propaganda put out by PCWorld so I would lke to use it if it is OK.

In the meantime, I have checked it on the list of corrupt ant-spyware programs at www.2-spyware.com and so I know that it doesn't appear there. Although this is reassuring, I would like to have some feedback from people who have used the present version and from PCWorls themselves.

I am trying to find out the way to send the file to a2 so that they can comment and if I have any more news I'll post it here.

Thanks again for your interest.

All the best,

Craig

hello again, i hope you will find what you're looking for. some security tools use indeterminate   ways to detect spyware, so they might report legitimate software as computer parasite once in a while. i guess it's the case we got here.

Craigrot,

Many legitimate antispywares makes some mistakes in giving some false positives. It doesn't happen often but only at certain times. Yours might be one of them. If HS is a safe program, don't need to worry about it.
