spy sherriff locked background display

How do you unlock the background wall paper that has been locked to the spysherif add? The change background option has been locked out, how do I unlock it?

I have already followed the steps for manual removal of SpySheriff listed elsewhere on this site, and simply would like to unlock the change background features on the desk top.

I also tried your method and i still do not have any control over my background display. I show a blue background and i do not have any themes except the classic theme. I have a nvidia gforce video card and the functions are available for me to change but nothing happens in windows xp pro.

Well, your log seems to be clean. You only need to remove the following entries, as they are not used anymore:

To unlock your desktop please do the following:
1. Click the Start button. Then launch the Run... tool.
2. Within the appeared window type regedit and press enter. This will open the Registry Editor.
3. Now locate HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop key and delete all its subkeys.
4. Reboot your computer.

Unfortunately it didnt work. Im about to save my files to another drive and wipe this one clean and reinstall windows.  :cry:

But i found SmitREM and was able to fix the background display.

Download the SmitREM.exe and follow the directions on the site. I have successfully restored my computer to normal and i can change my desktop. If your using a video card (ex. Gforce) and it has its own display properties you must use the destop management to change your desktop.
