hi, thanks in advance for your help.
while trying removing the "Internet Security 2010" malware (following the instruction on your site) i deleted the file "winlogon.exe or winlogon.dll" from the dir "c:\windows\system32" by mistake.  of course now i can not log into windows at all; the machine boots to the windows logon screen, click on admin or user account, flash of the wallpaper, then back to the logon screen.  this happens no matter what mode (safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, normal) i try to boot into.  how can i restore the winlogon file back into the "c:\windows\system32" dir? (i think that is the login problem.)   thanks for you help.  Chris

since asking this question i have tired useing the Repair Console to expand winlogon.exe back into the system32 dir.  it could not expand the file.  but, i was able to access and read what files are in the c:\windows\system32 dir on the machine and found that the winlogon.exe if in the dir.  but i am still not able to get past the login screen; i boot to the windows logon screen, click on admin or user account, there is a flash of the wallpaper, then back to the logon screen.  any suggestions?   thanks again, Chris

never mind.
i tried repair console, failed.
i tried the second repair, failed.
i tried reinstall without format, failed
i am just wiping the drive and doing a fresh install.
i found several discrepancies and inaccuracies in the fix put on on your site.  i tried it and that is what lead to the mess i am in now.  if at a later date i feel like pointing them out i will. but right now it would just be an exercise in frustration.  Chris

cwlocke00,

I am having the same problem you describe below although I don't have the knowledge to do a reinstall so will probably have to take my computer somewhere to have repaired.  Did you lose all of your files that you had (music, photos, documents, etc).  I don't mind have to re-install everthing but I didn't have these files backed up and now I am concerned i may have lost them.

I appreciate your input!

i am able to recover all my data.
if you take your machine to a computer shop they should be able to recover 100% of your data (music, documents, pictures, whatnot).  if they say they can't find another shop.  it might cost you more but they can do it.  i do it all the time for other people.  Chris

Thanks Chris, I appreciate your help.  What should I expect to pay to have this problem resolved?
