Hello there,
Today I posted a thread about the CISVC.EXE file in the other Forum area ... Malicious files. What I need here is an experts opinion on what is going on with my computer. Can I delete it? Or are there other things going on that I need to be aware of? The long and short of my other Forum thread was, my hard drive is getting slammed after about 3-4 minutes of inactivity. I watched my windows task manager to find what process was using my CPU -- and found that after a 3-4 minute wait time ... the file CISVC.exe and my McCafee MSSHIELD.exe started up. This caused my hard drive to start to run and my CPU was about 22 - 27% in use. This continued non-stop no matter what condition my computer was in ... i.e. Hibernating, standby, screen saver, idle, etc. What I have been doing to prevent my hard drive from getting slammed is simply ending the task in my task manager ... but what I need is an experts opinion on how to make a permant fix to this problem. So I have listed my Hijack log below in hopes to have an experts insight on how screwed up my computer is, and how you guys could help me. Frankly, any help would be most appreciated and I would be most grateful.

Some insight on this computer -- I have had this thing for 3 years. A lot of stuff has been added and deleted over the years. I am very anal about defregging, disk clean up, and running my anti-virus. If you feel I am using the wrong protection programs ... meaning the wrong anti-virus ... please feed back that information.

Thanks again for any assistance.

Hi once again.

Your log is clean. This means that your system is not infected with any parasites.

These are the only entries I would fix:
O4 - Global Startup: Digital Line Detect.lnk = ?
O9 - Extra button: Help - {95754050-1E80-40DB-BFA6-01D761EF3190} - http://www.comcast.net/memberservices/ (file missing) (HKCU)
O9 - Extra button: WeatherBug - {AF6CABAB-61F9-4f12-A198-B7D41EF1CB52} - C:\Program Files\AWS\WeatherBug\Weather.exe (file missing) (HKCU)
O9 - Extra button: ComcastHSI - {C4442480-72F1-442F-83CE-E52FE8ADE257} - http://www.comcast.net (file missing) (HKCU)
O9 - Extra button: Support - {FF8F03EA-FF49-4760-A5DA-ACA4BCA2BC21} - http://www.comcastsupport.com (file missing) (HKCU)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: WRNotifier - WRLogonNTF.dll (file missing)

These are not malicious, but simply aren't used anymore.

P.S. I've answered to your post in the Malicious files section.

GTO your a stud man!! That fixed my hard drive issues and removed the dead files from my hijack log. THANK YOU!!

Without people like you around, we would be always subject these plagues.

On a side note ... Would you reccommend Mcafee anti-virus?

Or do you prefer another?

Also, Do you have a library setup here, where you have posted wisdom? I wouldn't mind reading more.

Also, This event with my computer has sparked a interest in my oldest child. What is your education? Meaning what type of degree would one have to obtain to be able to manipulate Windows like this and be able to know what they are looking at in these Hijack logs. If this is to personal I understand -- I think it would be cool that my girl learn more about computers.

Thanks again man,

Bill

Hi, Bill

I am very glad I could help you. Thank you for such kind words . I greatly appreciate this .

Now let's talk about McAfee antivirus. I personally do not like this product as well as most of other McAfee programs. I wouldn't say it is too bad, I just don't trust it much. I think that Kaspersky Anti-Virus, NOD32 Antivirus System or even Symantec AntiVirus and free version of AVG Anti-Virus are much better products than McAfee VirusScan. But that's just my two cents. McAfee software provides quite a reliable protection. But not from the most recent parasites and, unfortunately, not always.

As for my degree, I have a university education in computer science and IT. However, it is not only the education that one might need to deal with the system and figure out how it works. The most important things are practice and experience. Your daughter should practise a lot if she wants to learn more about computers. The theory is good, but without the practice it is almost useless.

P.S. I don't have any library setup. I just keep it in my head Cool.
