How to figure out whether a file is malicious or not?

Hi, how can I figure out whether a file is malicious or not? The only thing I know about it is its name. Thanks.

it's a bit late for this reply, but it can be useful for the others on this forum. if you suspect that a file is malicious feel free to use search on this site. simply enter the file name on the search box on the top right corner of this website. if you can't find the file here, you can use links given in our directory of computer files.
