Computer completely hosed... can't recover

My computer was running slow as junk.  It kept saying it was infected and yada yada, then, even after hours of waiting, it would freeze and nothing would respond.  I reset it and now I get a DOS prompt saying:


"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
System32/Drivers/pci.sys

You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows setup using the original Setup CD-ROM.
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair."


I put in the Windows CD rom, I hit R. I hit enter... no matter what I do, it just restarts the computer over and over.  There's nothing that I can do to get myself out of this cycle.  So what am I supposed to do?

...OK.  I start it up this morning and Windows starts just fine.

My Prevx also logged something that happened, saying "SHDOCVW.DLL" has been blocked from starting.

Right after that, I get another message saying "You have been infected!" and now Prevx is cleaning up my system.  I guess I'll see what happens from here.  Last time I did this it froze for hours.

Now when I restarted, after the scan, my desktop picture is here, but nothing else.  The taskbar is gone... everything.  I'm restarting it again...

I guess the most helpful thing I can do is tell you what I can see.

If I hit ctrl+alt+del, my task manager responds.

My CPU usage spikes to 100% about every 10 seconds.

Please do this:

Download the trial version of ewido anti-spyware. Install the program, update its definitions and run a complete system scan.

Use the Task Manager to launch Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer and ewido anti-spyware.
