HELP! sysprotectionpage spyware infection

my computer seems to be infected with the sysprotectionpage virus. my homepage internet is changed to the sysprotectionpage. i have icons on my desktop linking to phony virus software and some 'system alert: popups' thing in my bottom bar telling me to get rid of my popups. i have 'adult friendfinder' and 'remove spyware' type popups. i have a win XP computer. AVG found some 'general trojans' and i removed them but the problem is still there. i am currently scanning ad-aware and going to download hijack-this and post my log. what can i do to get rid of the virus?

edit: ad-aware found 188 files. i will remove them when it finishes scanning but i doubt it will permanantly solve the problem. as i remember when i had the winfixer problem it found tons of files but didn't help me but you guys could. that time i did end up messing up my computer but i later found it that was because it was an emachines computers (integrated systems? that's what the computer store told me). thankfully i have a new computer now, not an integrated system, and i shouldn't have the same problem.

Please follow these steps:

1. Download the smitRem tool and unpack its files to a chosen folder.

2. Download Pocket KillBox or KillBox utility.

3. Use HijackThis to fix the following entries:

4. Now restart your system in Safe Mode. This step is very important!

5. Once in Safe Mode, run the smitRem tool by executing the RunThis.bat file. The smitRem tutorial can be found here.

6. Then use either Pocket KillBox or KillBox to delete the following files:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winpdc32.dll
C:\Program Files\ToolBar888\MyToolBar.dll

Also, delete the following directory:
C:\Program Files\ToolBar888

7. After you get done, restart your computer, run new HijackThis scan and post a fresh log here.
