Hi moritzp. Welcome to the 2-Spyware.com forums!

Use HijackThis to fix the following entries:
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: Class - {D31350E3-9FC7-6C2C-B94B-BAC50965876A} - C:\WINDOWS\gubcc1.dll (file missing)

It looks like you have the Gromozon (LinkOptimizer) infection. It is an extremely dangerous mixture of trojan and rootkit illegally installed to victim computers by malicious web sites through sophisticated exploits. This parasite is a hard to get rid of threat that integrates downloader trojans, rootkits, adware and other dangerous pests.

As far as I know, there is no automatic removal software capable of cleaning the Gromozon (LinkOptimizer) infection completely.

Luckily, 2-Spyware.com provides Gromozon and LinkOptimizer Removal Guide (contains mostly manual removal instructions). Work through it.

I tried to work through the manual description, but I I had problems with the following steps:

"5. After the scan is over, you will be presented with a report containing malicious entries (files and registry keys hidden from the operating system). Search for a hidden library (DLL) file residing in the folder C:\Windows or C:\Winnt. Write down the full path of that file. Then search for a hidden file in the directory C:\Windows\System32 or C:\Winnt\System32. Take note of its full path also.

6. Now search the scan report for an executable file located in C:\Program Files\Common Files\System or C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft\Shared. If you can find the file, write down its full path. If there is no such executable, skip this step."

to 5. there were heaps of dll's and exe's
to 6. there was no such file or even folder

What was interesting: After working through all the other stps the rootkit revealer ran on my system, whereas befor only the germ would run. Anyway I had the same problems with the rootkit revealer (see above)
I really need a running systm at the moment. would you suggest to format everything ( it would cost me half a day and I really need the time at moment ;-) ) or what should I do...

Hi moritzp.

Of course, it would be much easier just to format everything. However, this requires a lot of time. Not only you have to install the operating system, drivers, required software, etc., but also you will have to reconfigure, customize everything.

I'll try to help you with manual removal. However, this might take even longer.

Please copy the list of DLLs and EXEs from Step 5 and post them here.
