This was my log. i have been having a problem getting rid of this thing. smitfraud didn't get rid of it all the way. lots of popups. thanks

okay so i used hijackthis to delete a similar file to the one that Don deleted to get rid of the icon in his earlier thread and it got rid of the icon but i am still getting ads like crazy. any suggestions?? i am thinking of just reformatting pretty soon but don't want to if there's something else i can do.

The little icon is back in the tray after disappearing yesterday so it seems to have regenerated itself. I am getting popups for "winantivirus 2006 pro" and such as well as blank pages. also norton 2006 is finding "Adware.Purityscan" and blocking it along with other numerous files periodically.

Hi canetsberger.

Please follow these steps:

1. Download Pocket KillBox or KillBox utility.

2. Use HijackThis to fix the following entries:
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CTDrive] rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\drvmej.dll,startup
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Exaguqfc] C:\Program Files\Common Files\?ppPatch\j?vaw.exe

3. Now restart your system in Safe Mode. This step is very important!

4. Once in Safe Mode, use either Pocket KillBox or KillBox to delete the following files:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drvmej.dll
C:\Program Files\Common Files\?ppPatch\j?vaw.exe

Also, delete the following directory:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\?ppPatch

5. Reboot your computer. Download the free version of SUPERAntiSpyware. Install the program, update its definitions and run a complete system scan. Remove all the threats the application will find.

6. After you get done, run new HijackThis scan and post a fresh log here.

i completed the steps above and my computer seems clean; no tray icon or popups yet. only hiccup in the process was that after running superantispyware my computer would bluescreen upon restart and restart itself. so i ran superantispyware in safe mode and deleted some trojan and it started up just fine. also it said the file "C:\Program Files\Common Files\?ppPatch\j?vaw.exe" did not exist when i used killbox so i deleted the whole AppPatch directory. hopefully it's clean now. thank you!!!!!
