Hi, ive done all the manual removal stuff you suggested and that solved half the problem but whenever i go online im taken to the www.updateyoursystem.com page trying to get me to install that spyaxe and spytrooper crap. i cant get my homepage back as google and i cant even get to google. please help

Hi. Welcome to 2-Spyware.com forums.

First of all locate the Hosts file (if you're running Microsoft Windows 2000 or XP it should be in C:\WINDOWS\System32\Drivers\etc or C:\WINNT\System32\Drivers\etc), open it as a regular text file and delete everything except for the 127.0.0.1 localhost line and # comments.

Then please download the HijackThis tool, run a system scan and post a fresh log here. This step is very important, as I need a log to get more information about your system.

I did the manual delete and had the same problem - wouldnt display the proper homepage but saw a page flash up to be replace by the spyaxe homepage.
Had a bright idea - went into Tools - Manage add-ons and found one called HomepageBHO. I disabled it closed and opened IE and seemed to cure the problem

Hope this has been of use - I am a complete novice at spyware and hope to keep it that way!!

Huggyboy, thank you for provided advice. The HomepageBHO plug-in is not a standard Microsoft Internet Explorer add-on and therefore it is not only not needed, but also might be malicious. It seems that disabling it did the trick. However, in order to make yourself certain you should perform a HijackThis scan and post your results into the appropriate section for further analysis.
