I have an old desktop computer running win 98 which only starts in safe mode, I can't get it to start normally. It's not connected to the internet, yet...is there any way to check to see if it has a problem with spyware or something else? Can't load anything in safe mode. Only the floppy works. Suggestions? I also have a laptop that's online which I have been using to try to fix the desktop. Thanks, kuch

You can download the HijackThis program, run a scan and post your log here. This might reveal some malware installed to the system (if it's actually there). However, it would be much better to reinstall the OS. Windows 98 is not as stable as Windows 2000 or Windows XP is. Often it is very difficult to repair heavily damaged Windows 98 system.
