For the last two years I was one happy user of Norton Anti-Virus. Never had virus infections, parasites or any system problems. But the day before last I updated the program. Everything still was fine. But upon the next computer reboot Norton AntiVirus just didn't work as usually.

First of all, the Auto-Protect didn't load. Now every time I restart my system I get the following error: "Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect Driver could not be loaded. Your system is not protected from viruses. Please restart your computer." I did 6 reboots and the problem still persists. Furthermore, Norton AntiVirus started to crash unexpectedly while loading its main screen.

What should I do? How can I fix this problem? I tried everything I know, even reinstalled the program, but no luck. I really don't want to dump my NAV subscription.

Your problem is not unique. A lot of NAV users encounter similar errors. I suggest trying this solution from Symantec.

Thanks for the information, brainiac. I followed those instructions and eventually was able to fix the Auto-Protect issue. However, NAV still crashes. No matter what I try this problem is still there.

Here's an update relating to Norton Anti-Virus problems.

Today I turned on my computer and Windows was unable to start. I decided to make a clean reinstall (2 years old system was really slooow). I also installed and updated Norton AntiVirus. Gues what? It doesn't have any problems now! Auto-Protect works fine and the application doesn't crash no more.

Of course, reinstalling the system is not a solution, but it really works .
