 Post subject: damn spyaxe. please HELP! |

I got hit by this spyaxe yesterday. i used the smitRem, but it did not work. there is a new version of the smitRem that just came out today, 10/28/05, so i will try it out and see if it works, but so far my scanners, ad aware se and ewido haven't done anything to delete the file. they detect it and ask to delete it, but they never really do delete it. please help me.

Please follow these steps in order to clean up your system and get rid of SpyAxe:
1. Fix these entries using HijackThis:
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)
O9 - Extra button: Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe (file missing)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Windows Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SpyAxe] C:\Program Files\SpyAxe\spyaxe.exe /h
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Tsa2] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\tsa\tsm2.exe
2. Uninstall SpyAxe anti-spyware. Navigate to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add and remove programs. Find the SpyAxe entry and click Uninstall or Change/Remove. If there is no SpyAxe entry, open C:\Program Files\SpyAxe folder and find the uninstaller. Then delete that folder.
3. Open C:\Program Files\Common Files\tsa folder. Delete the tsm2.exe file. Then delete that folder too.
4. Reboot your system into Safe Mode. This step is very important!
5. Locate and delete the following files (if present):
C:\Windows\System32\svchosts.dll
C:\Windows\System32\ioctrl.dll
Delete C:\Windows\System32\1024 directory (if present).
6. After you get done, reboot your computer, run a HijackThis scan and post a fresh log here.
P.S. You should also delete the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\flapaxisgrimfile\OWNS MPEG.exe file and the directory it resides in. However, if you recognize this file as legitimate, leave it intact.
Also use HijackThis to fix this entry:

I think that these objects may cause the SpyAxe infection. |

there is the new HJT log. So far everything seems to be okay...but i am still very suspicious.
i could not find these files/folders: C:\\Windows\System32\svchost.dll (i saw the svchost.exe, but i did not see svchost.dll)
C:\\Windows\System32\ioctrl.dll
C:\\Windows\System32\1024
I also did not find the tsa folder with tsm2.exe & the flapaxisgrimfile folder with OWNS MPEG.exe

Congratulations! Your log seems to be clean. You can rejoice now  .
As for objects you couldn't find, make sure Windows Explorer displays such kind of files, as most of them are hidden. To enable showing of hidden files, please do the following:
1. Launch Windows Explorer.
2. Click on the Tools menu and then select the Folder Options entry.
3. Open the View tab.
4. Check this option: Show hidden files and folders
5. Uncheck this one: Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
6. Apply changes.
Now you should see all the files and folders, even the hidden ones. However, if objects listed below are still not there, they simply don't exist.
