Post Post subject: Spyware Strike and other Malware - Please help Reply with quote

Please help. Computer seems full of malware/pop ups. I thought I had got rid of them with a combination of smitrem, ewido and spybot, but they seem to have re-appeared. Hijack this log is below. Another problem is that if I try to do things in safe mode, my mouse won't move.

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi, gettingfedup44. Welcome to 2-Spyware.com forums!

Please follow these steps:

1. Use HijackThis to fix the following entry:
O2 - BHO: HomepageBHO - {4da4616d-7e6e-4fd9-a2d5-b6c535733e22} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\hpE78C.tmp (file missing)

2. Download the smitRem tool and unpack its files into a chosen folder. Also download the KillBox utility.

3. Reboot your system into Safe Mode. This step is very important!

4. Now run the smitRem tool (execute the RunThis.bat file).

5. Then search for the C:\WINDOWS\System32\replmap.dll file and the C:\WINDOWS\System32\1024 directory. Delete these objects if exist. You may need to use KillBox for this.

P.S. Your system is not up-to-date! You have to install Service Pack 2 for Microsoft Windows XP and Service Pack 2 for Microsoft Internet Explorer.

As for your mouse, I guess that it is a USB mouse and it is not working because Windows doesn't load any extra drivers in Safe Mode.

Can you recommend a site to obtain killbox from?

How do I get around the safe mode/mouse problem?

Download KillBox here.

I suggest using an adapter or a regular PS/2 or COM mouse would solve this problem. If I remember correctly, Windows XP doesn't load USB drivers in Safe Mode.

Sorry about this. When I usually log in, from boot it takes me straight to desk top, but in safe mode, it gives me a choice of my profile or Administrator - Does it matter which one I go in as?

Logon as the administrator. Otherwise you may be unable to delete certain files and registry entries.

I've done everything you said. So far so good. Have a look at my latest log.

PS. The mouse worked in safe mode!

Fix the following entry:
O16 - DPF: {FF3F0F03-0F01-131A-A3F9-08F02B23E0CC} - http://66.117.37.13/gba2296.exe

I have doubts about another entry - F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\System32\Userinit.exe.
It looks very suspicious to me. Please open the C:\WINDOWS\System32 folder and check userinit.exe properties. Make sure this file is from Microsoft.

Do you still receive pop-ups? And what about all that malware? Did manual removal work?

Hello Again

Entry 016 fixed as requested. (This kept being detected by EWIDO as a Trojan.small entry in the registry, prior to your post).

New hijack this log below.

I looked at the userinit.exe properties, and compared it to others in the same folder. Some are the same, many are different, e.g its creation date is August 2002, but many of the others are August 2001. Files the same include "tracerpt", "smss", and 'ntvdm". May it be something to do with the fact my Xp version is "unregistered", if you know what I mean?

Pop ups appear to have stopped, and malware files have gone - cmd prompt and killbox couldn't find them to remove, after I ran smitrem.

Only problem now is that when I open IE, the bar at the bottom of my home page goes to "Done', but then reverts to "one item remaining", and stays that way until I navigate to another page.

Any thoughts?

Your log looks clean to me Cool.

It sounds like that your userinit.exe file is legitimate. It is not related to any parasites. As for the IE problem, I suggest simply ignoring it as long as your system remains clean.
