I am having trouble getting rid of this.
I've removed the program.
However what remains is an icon in the tray that comes up with a message declaring my system is infected and inviting me to find a solution. Also my internet browers has been hijaked

Please follow these steps:
1. Download the smitRem tool and unpack its files into a chosen directory.
2. Use HijackThis to fix the following entries:
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = \blank.htm
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = \blank.htm
O2 - BHO: HomepageBHO - {4da4616d-7e6e-4fd9-a2d5-b6c535733e22} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hp860B.tmp
3. Now reboot your system into Safe Mode. This step is very important!
4. Run the smitRem tool by executing the RunThis.bat file.
5. Delete the following file, it it is present in your system:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\replmap.dll
6. After you get done, restart your computer, run another HijackThis scan and post a fresh log here. |

It looks like you have successfully got rid of the SpywareStrike parasite. However, one threat is still in your system. Please follow these steps:
1. Download the KillBox utility.
2. Use HijackThis to fix the following entry:
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [D:\NetMeter\NetMeter.exe] D:\NetMeter\NetMeter.exe
3. Delete the following file (you may need to use KillBox for this):
D:\NetMeter\NetMeter.exe
4. Delete the following directory:
D:\NetMeter |
