Post Post subject: Spyware Quake Reply with quote

Hi, i'm a new member and also appear to have Spyware Quake on my laptop.
i am currently running zone alarm, AVG, Spybot search and destroy and addarware, but i still got the virus. i have followed the instructions as best as i can, but am not sure how to unregister the stickrep.dll. Running the cmd in the start/run does not get the same result as the example. i have deleted it, and everything looks clean, but once it is rebooted it all comes back. My AVG does pick up the trojan, but it keeps coming back.
Am i missing something??
Thanks
Steve

I had the same problem. spyware quake is really nasty, but this is what i did and it got rid of it.
1) go here and FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS STEP BY STEP:
I'm referring to the section of the page under the title "Manual SpywareQuake removal", you can ignore the rest of the page.
http://www.spyware-removal-guideline.com/spywarequake-removal

2) after the process is completed, go to ewido's website and download the anti-trojan program (it's free)and let it scan your system (this is just to double check to make sure you got everything):
http://www.ewido.net/en/

3) never EVER use internet explorer to surf the web. download firefox and get the "noscript" extension from firefox's site. this alone will prevent almost all spyware from infecting your system.

hope this was a help.

I concur.

Follow each and every step in that order and it will get rid of spywarequake.

Also run hijackThis and submit the log to the "HiJackThis analyze log" forum to be sure. It turned out that I had one sneaky reg key to delete called "nothing".

i have now managed to remove it.the only problem i had was unregistering the dll. In the end i just deleted the stickrep file, and it is all working perfectly now.The only concern now is in the last two days my anti-virus has picked up another 2 trojans, which it has successfully deleted, but prior to getting Spyquake i have never had a trojan in years. Is my system now more susceptable to virus's, or am i getting paranoid??
