Last week was a spyware nightmare on my machine. I ended up using an armada of programs which all found different things - Windows OneCare and Trend Micro both found the Zlob trojan (twice!), and then during the same set of scans, AOL Spyware found SpywareQuake 2.0. Spysweeper found some other things, too!

I thought I got rid of everything (finally using Ewido). However, upon every reboot since, Windows Installer "Prepares to Install" something when my desktop comes up. I hit cancel, of course, but something clearly is still not right.

Please note that these entries are not malicious, but simply aren't used anymore.

As for the suspicious installer, it seems that it can be related to legitimate software installed on your computer. You can start the installation (but don't install actually) to figure out which application it belongs to.

Please run a new HijackThis scan and try fixing the entries. It's a HijackThis issue, which occurs when some of the files or entries are missing, but still are displayed. This happens if you open an old log and try to fix entries that exist no more.
