Post Post subject: ActiveX Controls Reply with quote

I used to be able to view video clips and things like that on a ton of jokes/funny videos sites (such as stupidvideos.com, dumpalink.com, etc...) before my settings were all reset recently. What is/are the specific security setting(s) that I should change back so that the videos play, instead of only showing me the dreaded little white "x" ??

Thanks!!

Hi, Birdieguy.

Please read this tutorial. There are a lot of guides like this on the Internet.

Yeah, I'm aware that there are. I've read a bunch of them, and now this one. I've got almost all of the settings set to a very generous level, but none of this is working. The only two differences than before I had all those problems last week are that now I'm using Spyware Doctor, and SpywareBlaster. Norton and AdAware never affected this, and don't seem to be now, but could these other two be influencing this?

It's gotta be something simple that I'm just overlooking...

Thanks again for your help, and please let me know if you can provide any further assistance.

Hi, Birdieguy.

It sounds like SpywareBlaster or Spyware Doctor prevent ActiveX controls from running. You can disable SpywareBlaster's protection and turn off Spyware Doctor. This should allow ActiveX controls to be installed. However, if the security programs block those ActiveX controls, then those controls are malicious. SpywareBlaster has the list of harmful controls. It would never block legitimate scripts. This means that you shouldn't run the controls from sites you've mentioned.
