Post Post subject: "Favorites" gets replaced by a "Search enhanc Reply with quote
I don't know whether I have malware on my PC or not. I use Spyware Doctor and Trend PcCillin (both kept up to date) but when I do a Google search my "favorites" list is replaced by a pale grey box with the title "search enhancer" at the top. It shows a number of search results, usually including e-bay and lycos. No matter how often I close it and replace it with my "favorites" it always comes back again when I search on Google. It doesn't happen with other search engines such as Ask.

I find it annoying and would like to be rid of it but I don't know whether it is harmful.

Can anyone advise please

Hi, Normski3.

Please follow these steps:

1. Download Pocket KillBox or KillBox utility.

2. Use HijackThis to fix the following entries:
O2 - BHO: ohb - {5ED7D3DE-6DBE-4516-8712-01B1B64B7057} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\SearchTool\nsp8D.dll
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: wxvault.dll

3. Now restart your system in Safe Mode. This step is very important!

4. Once in Safe Mode, use either Pocket KillBox or KillBox to delete the following files (if present):
C:\WINDOWS\System32\wxvault.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\SearchTool\nsp8D.dll

Also delete the following directory:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\SearchTool

5. After you get done, restart your computer, run new HijackThis scan and post a fresh log here.

Just to let you know that the cure has worked and the dreaded "search enhancer" no longer appears.It has started creating sales popups which have also gone.

I had raised this problem with PCTools as their Spyware Doctor hadn't found the problem. They asked me to run their Malware Detective tool and I sent them the results but nothing has happened since. With your permission, I will point them to this thread.

My thanks to all at 2-Spyware. A very impressive, quick and successful FREE service. I would be happy to contribute to your support if you tell me how.

Congratulations! Your last log is clean Wink. I'm glad your system is OK now.

As for contributions, we aren't ready to accept them now. Maybe later Rolling Eyes. But 2-Spyware.com services will remain being free.
