 Post subject: Problems with Vundo Trojan |

I have had problems with popups for the last week and a half. Tried Ad-Aware, Spy Bot; even paid for Spyware Doctor. Nothing solved the problem. Tonight I get on the computer and Norton Anti Virus tells me that I have Vundo Trojan. I download their removal software - nothing is found. So I find the program on this site. I am having problems deleting 2 files
c:/windows/system32/pmnnl.dll
c:/windows/system32/lnnmp.ini
I tried Killbox with no success. It tells me that the files can't be deleted.
I also tried HijackThis. I am able to scan but when I click "save to log" nothing happens or HijackThis crashes.
What can I do to get rid of this menace or will I be forced to reload the computer?

Hi Justtp.
As junior08jr8 said, please post your log here. If you cannot save it, try to copy and paste it here. We need to see it.
If nothing helps, please follow these steps:
1. Download the VundoFix tool. Then double-click on the downloaded file. This will unpack VundoFix files.
2. Now restart your system in Safe Mode. This step is very important!
3. Once in Safe Mode, open the VundoFix folder and execute the KillVundo.bat file.
* You will be presented with a warning. At this point press enter.
* Then you will be asked to type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff.
At this point type in this: C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmnnl.dll. Press enter, then the F6 key.
* Now you should be asked to type in the second path as instructed by the forum staff.
At this point type in this: C:\WINDOWS\system32\lnnmp*.*. Press enter, then the F6 key. Press enter one more time. Now the fix should run.
This should remove the Vundo infection. However, your system might be infected with more parasites. Some of them might be capable of reinstalling Vundo. That's why I need to see your HijackThis log. |

Thanks for the custom VundoFix tool. I am able to delete the files, but they respawn when I start the computer in normal mode.

I was not able to get the HijackThis log analyzer (link on right) to work, so I read the tutorial and fixed the following items:

Hi Justtp.
Your last log looks clean to me. However, this doesn't mean your system is spyware-free already. I suggest downloading the trial version of Spy Sweeper or ewido anti-spyware and running full system scan. Remove all the parasites the program will find. |
