First-time Olympian Australian skier Dale Begg-Smith has won the gold medal at this year’s Olympics in Torino. This is a great success for the Australian team. However, not all that glitters is gold. According to StopScum.com, the 21-year-old is also a first-rate spyware distributor, who ran AdsCPM, quite an infamous advertising company.
Dale Begg-Smith started his business when he was 13 with his older brother Jason, who is also a professional skier. Dale didn’t want to talk about his company and refused to give its name to the reporters. However, people at Geek Village made an interesting research to find out what kind of a business can benefit in a $300,000 Lamborghini sports car – Dale Begg-Smith drives one when he is in Vancouver, Canada.
As it turned out, young medalist ran the AdsCPM network, which distributed malicious unsolicited software for quite a long time. The company’s web site hosted the FreeMP3Music.exe application loaded with spyware. Furthermore, it was related to the Free Scratch and Win parasite, the infamous Lop threat and other malware that hit thousands of computer users around the globe few years ago.
It is quite unusual to see how successful former spyware distributors can be. Let’s wait and see where this story leads.
