It’s all about money

According to a recent study from Panda Software, a well-known antivirus developer, a larger part of all parasites is made only to make money for their authors. 40% of all malware detected by the company’s online scanner was spyware, 17% was made up by parasite downloaders and trojans stealing user bank account details and other sensitive information. 8% of the total was made by dialers that connect victim computers to the Internet by dialing premium rate phone numbers.

In total, about 65% of all malware detected by online virus scanner is made to make money for its makers. Traditional Internet risks like e-mail worms make up only 4% of the total. This can only mean that the parasites no longer target user systems, but more often affect user privacy in attempt to steal victim confidential information. This information can be easily sold or used for malicious purposes.
