My desktop computer was affected by the FBI virus. The screen shot that shows when your computer screen is locked has your IP address listed. I had backed up all my data on an external drive, tried to get the computer to reboot in safe mode and noting worked, so I threw out the computer and now just use my laptop, that I use wirelessly. I am afraid to hook up my old data cable to my laptop, as this malware knew my old IP address. Is the IP address unique to a computer or the data/router? Is it safe to use the old cable or do I need to do something to the computer or router (Verizon – Fios) to make it safe to use again? The wireless mode is a little slow.

You can feel safe and you don't need to change your router or cable because viruses infect only the system of its target system. However, if you want to feel safe, you can check your laptop with updated anti-spyware, such as FortectIntego.
Finally, if you would like to fix your PC, you can easily follow one of these options:
First of all, have you tried any of these steps:
* Access other account on your infected Windows system. If one of such accounts has administrator’s rights, you will be able to launch anti-malware program.
* Deny the Flash to make stop your ransomware from functioning as it is set. In order to disable the Flash, go to Macromedia support and select ‘Deny’: http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/help09.html. After doing that, run a full system scan with anti-malware program.
* Set computer’s date to the previous one when you haven’t had your virus and scan the system with updated anti-spyware.
