Adware Punisher is a corrupt illegally distributed anti-spyware program. It is secretly installed to victim computers by various trojans and through certain web browser exploits. Once executed, Adware Punisher registers itself in the system and runs a payload. It blocks access to some web sites including security-related resources and displays a deceptive icon in the system tray, which says that the compromised computer is infected with dangerous parasites. The threat may also hijack the web browser, disable some Windows functions and change the desktop background. Adware Punisher uses false positives and therefore displays bogus scan reports. This malware can restore its removed components. Parasites that install Adware Punisher run on every Windows startup.

Try booting it up in safe mode, I choose safe mode with networking, then from there try to delete the files. Safe mode will only run the core processes and not all the extra crap so Adware Punisher or anything linked to it will be runing.

the stuff isnt being downloaded but it keeps coming up in my system tray that i have a spyware infection and i should double click the icon to view a spyware remover. if i double click itll take me to a website for some malware product like adpunisher or pest trap or one of those. now obviously im infected with something but i dont know what i can do to get rid of whatever is causing that icon to pop up in the system tray. im using spysweeper, spybot, and ad-aware, and norton anti virus and they arent getting rid of it no matter how many searches and scans i do.
