I too lost my ability to run programs from icons after performing this fix. I cannot run .exe files to get the spyware doctor installed.

It does work. At least the file they send you does. The information to type in isnt explained or written properly, as I tried to type it in first and it failed miserably. I was told before that you had to clean out the entire hard-disk, but now I can keep the brush in my drawer.

it won't even let me get as far as running 'command', saying that i may not have access/permission to access the file (i am admin account on my laptop).
also, i cant find the av.exe process or anything similar.
it does not allow me to run .pif files either.

Are these removal instructions still valid for the present version of "Antivirus 2010" which incapacitated my computer this week- October 2010? As described so exactly above, most everything is disabled, especially all exe files.
Thanks.

Thank you for providing this fix, indeed it was a very irritating trojan....

Yes but you have to BUY the programs :(
There are no free ones
That sucks... ALOT :(

I should add it is imperitive you open the .reg file first, otherwise it will make it impossible for you to open the removal tool. If you do that it should work amazingly.

Thank you for all the help with removing the virus. I was able to DL Malwarebytes and successfully deleted the trojans. The only problem I continue to have is that the virus disabled my keyboard and touchpad. I can only use these functions by plugging in a desktop mouse and keyboard. Does anyone else have this problem?!! Is anyone here able to provide any information about getting this solved? Any help is appreciated and welcomed. Thank you!

"1. Click Begin->Run (or WinKey+R). Input: “command”. Press Enter or click OK.
2. Type “notepad” as shown in the image below and press Enter. Notepad will open.
3. Copy and past the following text into Notepad:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[-HKEY_Present_USERSoftwareClasses.exeshellopencommand]
5. Double-click to open exefix.reg. Click “Yes” for Registry Editor prompt window.
6. Download kingsoft pc doctor as an automatic removal tool below.
If you can’t total the above methods then please use yet another PC to download an automatic removal tool and exefix.reg (Right Click (Save Target As)) to download file. Copy these files to USB flash drive or any other external media and transfer them to infected computer. Launch exefix.reg file first and then install kingsoft pc doctor."
KPCD could be a useful tool for removing this. (Replace the references from SpyHunter, STOPzilla! etc. into Kingsoft PC Doctor)
