What is CheckThisToday.com?

CheckThisToday.com is a marketing platform that may be used to display intrusive advertisements trying to trick you in installing suspicious programs on your computer. In most of the cases, programs that are related to it sneak into computer silently and without a direct user's permission asked. Due to unfair method of infiltration, they have been categorized as potentially unwanted programs (PUPs). Once inside, CheckThisToday.com virus takes over all web browsers that are installed on computer, including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer. Be aware that this add-on was specifically designed to make money for third parties. It generates web traffic, reroutes to questionable websites, displays irritating advertisements and sponsored links. Once it drops its extension, it shows various advertisements and redirects people on random websites. At best, you may be redirected to suspicious looking website, which is not recommended surfing thru because it might be filled with questionable content. At worst, by clicking on CheckThisToday.com ads you may be asked to complete a survey, which requires entering your phone number, name and other personally identifiable information. You may be tempted to participate in this survey because it may promise to you various prizes, such as iPhone, iPad, MacBook Air or another valuable award. We strongly do not recommend people to disclose your personal details because by doing so they will automatically agree to pay $5 a week for a service that they definitely do not need. If you do not want to lose your money, avoid such surveys and commercial ads that may show up on your PC out of nowhere. Since CheckThisToday.com ads are useless, you should try to stay away from them as far as you can.

How can CheckThisToday.com hijack my computer?

Similarly to other adware-type programs, CheckThisToday.com infiltrates into the system along with free software. You should beware that the majority of third party promoted free programs are bundled with advertisements. In fact, 'bundling' is not considered as an illegal or unfair distribution method. However, nowadays it is mainly used for distributing potentially unwanted programs without user's noticing it. Due to this, this method was attached with a negative label. It is advisable to pay more attention while choosing and downloading free applications from the Internet in order to avoid downloading programs, such as CheckThisToday.com. Besides, do not select Recommended or Quick installation because this way you will automatically agree to install additional applications alongside your chosen software. Instead choose Advanced or Custom installation as it discloses all the programs that are going to be installed along with the program that you need. If you spot suggestions to install recommended plug-in, add-on, toolbar, or extension, we recommend deselecting it as it will probably be another adware and potentially unwanted program. Moreover, do not trust various pop-up notifications that offer to install software updates for free because in many cases instead of update users install various unwanted programs. CheckThisToday.com is not malicious program itself, but it implements various suspicious activities behind your back and tries to trick you in various ways. Therefore, it goes without saying that you should remove it.
