Chitika virus. How to remove? (Uninstall guide)

removal by Jake Doevan - - | Type: Adware

Chitika virus is a potentially unwanted program, which can start showing its banner ads every time you browse on the Internet. This adware mainly seeks to collect sensitive information about PC users, so you should be prepared for various pop-up windows that ask to participate in a survey if you have it on your machine. Besides, this program may also display commercial advertisements that are filled with links, underlined words and similar stuff. It must be said that Chitika virus is not as malicious as ransomware or rogue anti-virus. However, it may become really annoying after some time because it interrupts users every time they start their Internet sessions. If you are one of its victims, we highly recommend checking PC with updated anti-spyware and eliminating all malicious or potentially unwanted entries.

Chitika virus is spread via unfair distribution technique and can easily get inside its target PC in a bundle with freeware and shareware. In fact, there are many legitimate programs, such as games, toolbars and similar applications, that include such apps in the list of components. As we have noticed, it is especially related to iLivid Virus. If you want to prevent the infiltration of such viruses, you should choose custom installation method in the first place. In addition, uncheck all unfamiliar entries, including Chitika, iLivid and similar. As soon as it gets inside, this program alters settings of all Internet browsers and starts itsrrupting its victims. If you see annoying pop-up ads from Chitika every time you browse on the Internet, you should immediately check your machine for this adware.

This comment is in regards to the “Chitika Virus” that has mistakenly been associated with Chitika, an online ad network. Chitika ads are not in any way viruses, and we do not serve any sort of pop-up or pop-under ads. A third party has been using Chitikas name on a virus that they have created, which is not at all affiliated with us. The best way to differentiate whether or not the Chitika ad you are seeing is valid or not is to ask yourself these questions:

    – Does the ad show a blue link in the upper right corner that says Chitika? If so, it is not a valid Chitika ad.

    – Does the ad have a link on the bottom right corner that says “Opt Out”? If not, this is not a valid Chitika ad.

    – Is the hover ad following you around the internet and not closing when prompted? If the ad is in the bottom right corner of your screen and does not close after you click the “x” it is not a Chitika ad.

We are currently working with the authorities to find out who may be behind this. To learn more on how you can remove this virus, check out our blog post:
