General Antivirus is another rogue anti-spyware application. This parasite is promoted in several ways. Mainly, it pretends to be an online anti-malware scanner. After the fake scan it usually states that user's computer is seriously infected and suggest to download General Antivirus for infections removal. Secondly, it may enter the system using trojan viruses without user's knowledge and permission.

Once installed and active, General Antivirus is configured to start automatically when the system loads. Then it performs fake system scan and displays various infections that cannot be removed until the user purchases a license of General Antivirus. It may also display fake Windows Security Center notification, an alert box that pretends to be a firewall alert stating that user's PC is under attack from a remote host, an alert stating that a serious infection was detected and many similar counterfeit security messages.
