Gimmiv is worm that threatens victim’s privacy. It hides its activities, so it can only be detected and stopped if reputable security tools are used on the infected machine.

Gimmiv worm is also known as Win32/Gimmiv. Its mission is collecting diverse information about compromised system. Once it gathers needed material, Gimmiv sends the data to remote servers. It usually delivers information to 59.106.145.58, summertime.1gokurimu.com, doradora.atzend.com and perlbody.t35.com.

Win32/Gimmiv uses MS08-067 exploit to copy itself to other computers. This exploit is related to Microsoft server service remote code execution. It allows Gimmiv worm to reach and infect other machines. The worm sends a few files to the potential victims and those files then download missing parts of Gimmiv. It updates itself using 59.106.145.58 server.

Gimmiv doesn’t target personal data, but information it records can be used for malicious actions. Gimmiv worm logs machine’s name, local adapter details and Windows version. It also gathers names of all programs installed on a computer and steals usernames and passwords for MSN Messenger and other applications.
