HDD Control is a rogue computer optimization program that pretends to scan your hard drive and registry for errors. After the fake scan it states that your computer has serious problems and prompts you to pay for a full version of the program to fix those problems. Of course, it won’t fix anything even if you purchase it because HDD Control is a scam. This scareware comes from misleading or infected websites. It pretends to be a useful program or an update. HDDControl is also promoted via trojans and other malicious software. Once installed, this rogue program will be configured to run each time you log on to Windows. It will pop up and start to scan your computer without your permission. It may change your Desktop wallpaper to black and hide your Windows taskbar.
HDD Control will report numerous hard drive and registry errors. It will state that about 30% of your hard drive is unreadable or that hard drive doesn’t respond to system commands.
