Mipbot.b, also known as Rustock, is a backdoor that runs a hidden proxy server on the compromised computer. This proxy can be used by malicious persons to send out large amount of spam e-mail messages and perform other illegal actions. Mipbot.b can also download and install the ICQ messenger. The backdoor regularly contacts predetermined web servers in order to download arbitrary files and retrieve updated configuration settings. Mipbot.b uses a rootkit, which injects malicious code into legitimate system components and hides the parasite. The threat automatically runs on every Windows startup.
