One small refinement would have saved me some anxiety as a nervous Registry editor. On this page where you say:

It would be clearer to say "Delete registry keys" - that is the whole thing, with sub-objects, in the left column of the Registry Editor. I agonized for a while about whether it was just a particular value in the key, i.e. something in the "Data" column on the right side, that was supposed to be cleared.
