Novacal is a backdoor that gives the attacker unauthorized remote access to a compromised computer. Once executed, the threat displays a certain image, registers itself in the system and sends the attacker an ICQ message. Novacal allows the intruder to run applications, alter the Windows registry, manage processes, download and upload arbitrary files, control the CD-ROM drive. The backdoor can also log keystrokes and take screenshots of user activity. Novacal blocks access to reputable security resources like Symantec software update servers. It runs on every Windows startup.
