What is Privacyshelter.info?

Privacyshelter.info is a marketing platform, which was involved to fooling PC users and making them pay for useless services. If you think that you can’t be tricked by such scam, you should think about such scenario: you are browsing on the Internet and a huge warning message interrupts you. It claims that your computer is seriously infected and that you need to call some number to remove a virus from the system. This number is marked as toll-free, so there is no risk of receiving an increased telephone bill. You are also informed what can be done by this threat and such risks as the loss of your credit card details or the loss of your passwords are listed there. Sounds quite tricky, right? However, you should never call the number that is given in Privacyshelter.info pop-up if you don’t want to loose $199 or even a bigger amount of money. In reality, you should ignore such ad because your computer is not infected with a virus that is trying to steal your personally identifiable information. However, if you have been seeing Privacyshelter.info ads for a while, you should think about scanning your machine with the reputable anti-spyware because it might be that it was affected by adware-type program. As soon as such PUPs enter the system, they modify each of web browsers and then start causing different kinds of ads. Some of them can be misleading like this one, so you should ignore them. In order to remove Privacyshelter.info-related adware and other potentially unwanted programs from your computer, you should run a full system scan with Reimage. This program will show you what is hiding in your computer..

How can Privacyshelter.info hijack my computer?

As we have said, you should be worried after seeing such warning during your browsing on the Internet but this is not because your computer is affected by virus. If you have been seeing Privacyshelter.info alert for a while, it means that your computer was affected by adware:

System Virus Warning:
Your Computer May Have A VIRUS!

Your location XXXXXX, Your IP address XXXXXX, Date: XXXXXXX

What to do: Call XXXXXXXXXXXXX (toll-free) for assistance on how to remove malicious pop-ups and viruses. This call is prioritized and 100% free.

About the threat:

Seeing this pop-up means that you may have malware/adware on your computer which puts the security of your personal data at serious risk. We strongly advice you call XXXXXXXXXXXXX (toll-free) immediately and get your computer fixed before you continue using the Internet, especially for watching movies and shows.

In order to avoid adwares and other PUPs, you need to remember that they are mostly spread with the help of freeware and shareware. Here, they are presented as optional components but you should never trust them and download them to your computer. In order to avoid adware, browser hijackers and other PUPs, you need to start monitoring installation of the freeware. The easiest way to do that is to select Custom or Advanced installation of the freeware and then deselect each of pre-checked check boxes.
