.Shit file extension virus

.Shit virus Removal Guide

What is .Shit file extension virus?

How damaging can .Shit file extension virus be to your personal files?

.Shit file extension virus already features quite an obnoxious name, but the real mischief of this nasty parasite manifests through its behavior on the infected devices. Nevertheless, it is nothing that you wouldn’t expect from a descendant of the notorious Locky virus. Indeed, .Shit ransomware is a new version of this well-known virus which has been recognized as one of this year’s most active cyber threats. Just like its predecessor, this ransomware is especially destructive. It uses complex, military-grade algorithms to encrypt more than 380 types of files which then become inaccessible, virtually without a prospect of recovery. Thus, infection with such a virus is usually considered fatal and almost inevitably ends up in data loss. Of course, the hackers will most definitely offer an option to recover files with the help of the custom decryption tool. They promise to hand this tool in after a set amount of money is transferred to their bank account. Unfortunately, as practice shows, this rarely happens. Hackers are more likely to vanish with the money, leaving the user stranded without the decryption key and chances to get their data back. Since the experts have not yet come across the way to recover data without having to pay the ransomers, the safest option is to remove .Shit file extension from the computer to stop it from affecting your future files. Please keep in mind that a smooth virus removal can only be guaranteed when using reputable and specialized tools, such as FortectIntego, for instance.

Image of the .Shit file extension virus

.Shit extension virus spreads via corrupted DLL files which the users download on their computers by deception, usually via spam emails labeled as “Receipt ###-###.” These files contain a malicious executable called Rundll32.exe which is responsible for data encryption and deployment of the ransom note and data recovery instruction files on the computer. For this purpose, the virus creates three new documents on the infected computer, including _WHAT_is.html, _[2_digit_number]_WHAT_is.html and _WHAT_is.bmp. The content of these files goes as follows:

!!! IMPORTANT INFORMATION !!!
All of your files are encrypted with RSA-2048 and AES-128 ciphers.
More information about the RSA and AES can be found here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSA_(cryptosystem)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Encryption_Standard
Decrypting of your files is only possible with the private key and decrypt program, All which is on our secret server.
To receive your private key follow one of the links:
1. http://jhomitevd2abj3fk.tor2web.org/
2. http://jhomitevd2abj3fk.onion.to/
If all of this addresses are not available, follow these steps:
1. Download and install Tor Browser: https://www.torproject.org/download/download-easy.html
2. After a successful installation, run the browser and wait for initialization.
3. Type in the address bar: jhomitevd2abj3fk.onion/
4. Follow the instructions on the site.
!!! Your personal identification ID: !!!

As you can see, in the ransom note, the hackers indicate all the details on what the user has to do once infected. The links to the payment sites and information about the whole encryption process is provided to make the whole extortion process as much automatized as possible. This way, the criminals can sit back and watch their increasingly growing income. If you do not want to be one of their indirect supporters, reject their demands and proceed to the .Shit file extension removal immediately.

Could you have prevented this virus from entering your computer?

.Shit file extension ransomware uses obfuscation techniques more advanced than any other potentially unwanted program or malware. So, it is not surprising that it manages to sneak into the computers silently and run on them undetected until it is already too late. In particular, .Shit virus works like a Trojan which enables it to deploy its executable on the computer disguised as HTA, JS or WSF file. Once such a file is downloaded, the virus can then activate itself using the already mentioned DLL which is executed by the Rundll32.exe. Emails carrying these malicious documents are often very deceptive, so no matter how careful you are, there is really no way of knowing if the online purchase confirmation, flight details or speeding ticket you receive in your inbox are not contaminated with ransomware. This virus prevention is difficult, so it is better to protect the important data beforehand. This can easily be done by making backup copies. Just keep in mind that backups have to be made on a clean computer, not to infect the external storage device with .Shit file extension virus as well.

Bonus: Recover your data

Guide which is presented above is supposed to help you remove .Shit from your computer. To recover your encrypted files, we recommend using a detailed guide prepared by 2-spyware.com security experts.

As we have already mentioned in the article above, .Shit file extension virus is a complex cyber infection and its decryption algorithm has not yet been invented. However, this does not mean that you should pay the virus creators to get your files back. Instead, we highly recommend deleting the virus and following alternative data recovery instructions below.

If your files are encrypted by .Shit, you can use several methods to restore them:

Data recovery method using Data Recovery Pro

For the users who are busy enough to be dealing with stuff other than data recovery, we recommend automatic trying out professional tools such as Data Recovery Pro. Though you should not expect a full system recovery, you can at least hope for to get at least some of your important data back. Follow the instructions below to try out this technique:

  • Download Data Recovery Pro;
  • Follow the steps of Data Recovery Setup and install the program on your computer;
  • Launch it and scan your computer for files encrypted by .Shit ransomware;
  • Restore them.

Data recovery technique using Windows Previous Versions feature

Windows Previous Versions feature is a data recovery method which you can opt for if you wish to recover just a few important files, but not the entire system. However, this method will only be useful under one condition — if the System Restore feature has been enabled pre-attack. If it was, check out the steps below:

  • Find an encrypted file you need to restore and right-click on it;
  • Select “Properties” and go to “Previous versions” tab;
  • Here, check each of available copies of the file in “Folder versions”. You should select the version you want to recover and click “Restore”.

Data recovery option: ShadowExplorer

ShadowExplorer is the third option you can try out in order to recover your data. Please note that it is probably the least questionable one, because its effectiveness depends on whether the virus has deleted Volume Shadow Copies from the infected device or not. If you are lucky, the instructions below will help you recover some of your data.

  • Download Shadow Explorer (http://shadowexplorer.com/);
  • Follow a Shadow Explorer Setup Wizard and install this application on your computer;
  • Launch the program and go through the drop down menu on the top left corner to select the disk of your encrypted data. Check what folders are there;
  • Right-click on the folder you want to restore and select “Export”. You can also select where you want it to be stored.

Finally, you should always think about the protection of crypto-ransomwares. In order to protect your computer from .Shit and other ransomwares, use a reputable anti-spyware, such as FortectIntego, SpyHunter 5Combo Cleaner or Malwarebytes

How to prevent from getting ransomware

Choose a proper web browser and improve your safety with a VPN tool

Online spying has got momentum in recent years and people are getting more and more interested in how to protect their privacy online. One of the basic means to add a layer of security – choose the most private and secure web browser. Although web browsers can't grant full privacy protection and security, some of them are much better at sandboxing, HTTPS upgrading, active content blocking, tracking blocking, phishing protection, and similar privacy-oriented features. However, if you want true anonymity, we suggest you employ a powerful Private Internet Access VPN – it can encrypt all the traffic that comes and goes out of your computer, preventing tracking completely.

Lost your files? Use data recovery software

While some files located on any computer are replaceable or useless, others can be extremely valuable. Family photos, work documents, school projects – these are types of files that we don't want to lose. Unfortunately, there are many ways how unexpected data loss can occur: power cuts, Blue Screen of Death errors, hardware failures, crypto-malware attack, or even accidental deletion.

To ensure that all the files remain intact, you should prepare regular data backups. You can choose cloud-based or physical copies you could restore from later in case of a disaster. If your backups were lost as well or you never bothered to prepare any, Data Recovery Pro can be your only hope to retrieve your invaluable files.
