Smart Security is a rogue anti-spyware program from the same family as Security Tool. It pretends to be a legitimate security program, but in reality it's just another virus. The rogue program is promoted and installed through the use of Trojans that usually come from fake online scanners or malicious PDF files, bogus video sites or any other misleading websites. Once installed, Smart Security will run a system scan and display numerous serious infections on your computer. But don't worry about that, because the scan results are absolutely false. It just tries to make scare you into thinking that your computer is infected when it's not. Then it will prompt you to buy the full version of the program to remove the infections which don't even exist. Don't do that. Otherwise you will simply lose your money and probably won't get them back.
Another very annoying thing about Smart Security is that this fake program loads a bunch of fake security alerts and notifications claiming that your computer is infected or under attack from a remote PC. Furthermore, it will block legitimate anti-virus and anti-spyware programs to protect itself from being removed. It will block security related websites too so you may have to use another PC to download removal tool or print out the removal instructions. If you find that your computer is infected with SmartSecurity virus, please follow the removal instructions below and remove Smart Security from your PC either manually or with an automatic removal tool. Most importantly, don't purchase it. If you already bought it then you should contact your credit card company and dispute the charges.
UPDATE: A new version of Smart Security virus has been noticed in the end of January, 2013. This virus belongs to a category of rogue anti-spywares, so it shows fake alerts and system scanners in order to make users pay for its registered version. Be aware that this virus uses different GUI and may also use different alerts reporting about invented viruses and other cyber infections. Similarly to an older one, a new Smart Security virus is distributed through fake flash updates, video codecs and infected PDF files. Pay attention that you can also get infected with this rogue anti-spyware when visiting malicious websites, such as illegal gambling sites or free gaming portals. Besides, other malware or ransomware can also download malicious files that beling to Smart Security.
As soon as Smart Security gets inside, it starts initiating its fake activities that are based on reporting about unreal infections and cyber threats. Be sure that they are reported in order to scare you and make you purchase the fake licensed version of Smart Security. Here are some examples of such forged alerts:
Malicious program has been detected. Click here to protect your computer
iexplore.exe can not start
File iexplore.exe is infected by W32/Blaster.worm. Please activate Smart Security to protect your computer
Please, ignore these alerts and remove Smart Security virus! Be sure that this program is useless in virus detection and removal just like its previous version. In reality, its 'detected' parasites are legitimate files that can be found on your computer, so you may dmage the system after following it and deleting its reported files.
When trying to get rid of this rogue, we don't recommend doing that manually because you may lose valuable information from your computer after deleting wrong files from the PC. In order to avoid that and remove Smart Security for good, you have to run a full system scan with STOPzilla or SpyHunter. If you are blocked by this virus and can't launch anti-malware, reboot your PC to Safe Mode with networking first and try again. For that, reboot your PC and, as soon as it starts booting up, start clicking F8 to get ability to choose a right option.Smart Security properties:
