Wanna Find Out Who They Are?? Network Solutions and do a search under whois - also if you look under properties of the pop up site this addy comes up: http://msxml.vpptechnologies.com - I'm sure they are spoofing the address (redirecting it so that they can cover their tracks) - take the whois address and email them like crazy - maybe with enough complaints they'll get rid of the junk!

Hey gentlemen. I to am annoyed with Spoton.
I disected their web pages and found out that Spoton is a subsiderary of VPP Technologies.
VPP also owns ditto.com.
Ditto.com is in bed with a number of search engine companies , such as
www.infospace.com
www.metacrawler.com
www.mamma.com
www.dogpile.com
www.go2net.com
www.hotbar.com
www.netzero.com
www.finger.com
www.gopher.com
www.techtv.com
www.usa.com
www.nation.com
Who may or may not be responsible for placing the spy program on your computer.

Use windows explorer to search the file Spotonbh.dll, write down the location of this file.
Click Start > Run, type regsvr32 /u %programdir%/Spotonbh.dll.
Note: replace the variable %programdir% with the directory where Spotonbh.dll resides in.

Tried looking for the spotonbh.dll file... it doesn't find it or the registry entry that some sites refer to under the Browser Helper Objects folder... I hate Spot On!!!!! I've been deleting every cookie and registry reference I can find and it still comes up on my home page and almost every other page I frequent. I haven't tried X-Cleaner, but I sure hope it works...

omg, you guys wouldnt believe how simple it is to stop this spoton from working lmao.
Ok here's how I did it:
1) Windows Key+E to open explorer.
2) Go to Program Files
3) Locate the folder "Xmod"
4) Inside is the dreaded "XM320.DLL" file, correct?
5) Right click the above mentioned file and click "rename"
6)Change the extension from a .DLL file to a .zip file
7) Hit enter to confirm the change, and hey presto!

It no longer functions as a DLL file and your web browser once again becomes yours!

One Pleased Internet User
Forgot to mention what else I had to do to finalise the details above.
1) Windows Key+R, type "Regedit"
2) Search for the file "XM320"
3) delete the entire string that contains the file.
4) go to"c:program filescommon filesjava" and delete all files inside.
5) go back to C:/Program Files and delete the entire folder "Xmod"

The reason for doing it this way around is as most of you may have noticed you were'nt allowed to delete the XM320 file before, however after following all of my instructions the protection has been destroyed, thus allowing you to remove ALL traces of this program.

Sit back, reboot, and enjoy your websurfing with no more annoying "spoton" pop up :)

SpotOn was driving me mad...thanks everyone for all your help. I completely agree with Jim...how can they expect us to respect their unwanted, infuriating, invasive adware enough to think on it with anything but disgust?

It seems to be gone for now, thanks to the info on this page. Hope it stays that way. I wonder if, since ALL of the guy's personal info is on this page (hilarious), he might be getting as much annoyment as we all were.

Thanks again for the help all!!

The only program that finally got rid of that nasty SpotOn is: Spy Sweeper

To J. (May 30, 2004):
You are the man. I have been searching for months to find a way of removing SpotOn - which in my opinion should not have to cost me $29.99 to do if I didn't agree to have it in the first place!
I am so happy with X-Cleaner that I am going to buy it anyway, just because out of all the ones I have tried, none but X-Cleaner was able to find and remove the SpotOn menace.

So thanks to both of you!! Have an Ice Cold one on me!!!

I just downloaded the free trial version of spy sweeper and it has appeared to have removed spotOn from my system. It will also remove the adware Cydoor which is associated with Kazaa. I've had the re-install kazaa lite v. 2.0.2 which claims to have no ad or spyware but uses cydoor. The program will not work otherwise. So far SpotOn hasn't re-appeared so fingers crossed. I tried Spybot also but it didn't seem to work, it detected certain spyware and registery keys but wouldn't remove them. Good luck guys, I hope this helps. SpotOn can be a real pain in the ass at the best of times. I just hope it doesn't come back on my Pc.

I cannot rename xm320.dll (or delete it), I have tried ad aware, spyware blaster and x-cleaner. x-cleaner identified it but when i re-booted it was there again, i tried again with x-cleaner and saw that whilst it did delete it, stupid SpotOn was back as soon as I re-booted! I am about to throw my computer out the window...please help!

Thank you, One Pleased Internet User: your instructions finally got rid of that sickening digital vermin, SpotOn, after no less than six different adware removal tools failed. Just one additional comment: you have to restart after the registry changes in order to delete the XMod folder. Cheers.

Here's what you should do if you are SERIOUSLY hainv trouble with removing Spoton. First off, you should reboot your computer and do not go back online! Hello, this is an online beast, so once you are online, it hooks online with you, so to disable it, you want to be offline...make sense?

Well then rename it, everything, which is the reg2 in program files and XM320 folders rename the dlls and everything in the folder. Delete.

What I ended up doing myself, was actually renaming them, then restarting w/o logging onto the internet, and then deleting...but hopefully either one will work! :)

This guy sucks. I am thouroughly annoyed. I will try SpyHunter as I have tried 4 others including adaware, Spybot search and destroy, Spy Sweeper. None of these were successful. I can't believe guys like this exist. Someone must pay them for their service and they must think it works. Do people actually respond positively to popups??? I would never have anything to do with anybody involved.

This guy SUCKS.

Thanks for writing. First, the software you refer to isn't mine. I
have nothing to do with it, nor does the company I work for. The
picture you've linked isn't me, either.

I don't see a custom setting option, "inhibiting first class cookies" button or a block button, maybe because I have IE 6.0.2?

Place these 3 Websites in I.E. restricted area:
static.vpptechnologies.com
msxml.467v078s095.com
ads.flashtrack.net

This has cut down 90% of the pop-ups and reduced lockup time to 5-10%, because it may only initiate a seconary window w/o fully creating it! LIVE LONG & PROSPER - screw this Spoton!!!

OK, I slowed myself down, read the fine print (instructions in post #35), performed them, and Waa-Laa, no more Spoton. I am not a violent person, but if I ever found my hands wrapped around the authors neck...

Ok, I put the sites in the restricted sites setting, but the blank box that pops up every damn time i visit a website is still really really annoying! Thanks to all who posted so that I could get rid of the ads though! I really appreciate that! But I'm still about to throw my computer out a damn window!

SpotOn has changed since "Once Pleased Internet User" posted reply #17. To remove the latest version of SpotOn:
1. find and open folder Program FilesXML and
2. change "XML.DLL" to "XML.ZIP".

That's it!
