I will try to follow your instructions once I go home but I just wanted to say I love the clarity of the article and the basic articles it makes references to. Great job!

I have Windows XP Professional version and I was plagued with this demon. I went into safemode and went through this removal tutorial and it appears to have worked like a charm. No more damn blinking icon in the tray and no more of those files anywhere to be found. Thanks a bunch for the information and pain and suffering to the bastard that made this thing.

You gotta be kidding me...Somehow i got it again!
68. by Guest. 2006-04-01 19:04:11
Im not sure but To remove it i dont think you need to delete/remove exatly all of the files. I remember i couldnt remove some files in the C:\Windows\System32\1024 but i deleted as much as i could and after restart it was gone
69. by Guest. 2006-04-01 19:04:27
Yeah I get the same thing about not being able to delete the files because it is in use by another program or user
70. by Guest. 2006-04-01 18:04:48
First off I would like to thank everyone on here for all the info. I still have a problem though, everytime I click to log on the internet it still takes me back to the damn spyquake page(I went into my internet explorer properties and tried changing my homepage back to msn.com numerous times but that clearly isn't working). I downloaded killbox and got rid of the stickrep.dll and followed the manual removal instructions the best I could. One thing I wasn't able to accomplish was when it says to kill processes everytime I tried to kill nvctrl.exe it would come right back up after I killed it. So I would like to thank everyone in advance for helping me out with this!

the only way I have found to get rid of a DLL that won't unload is to change the name of the DLL (I changed it to stickrep1.dll) , then restart in Safe mode with command prompt, and delete the renamed file that way.
'It worked in Windows 2000' but unsure if it will work in win98 or winXP.
hope this helps.

This is bullshit......why do these people insist on messing with other peoples pc's....just because they are intelligent enough to do so or just because they can is not a good enough reason....there has got to be a permanent answer to all of this.....there has to be....I am constantly getting hi-jacked by some jackass with a nack for programming and I am tired of it...tired of false virus pop-ups and ad-ware and spyware removal programs used as a front for their malicious nonsense.....they can all go to hell....I am going to figure out a way to start a counter atack.....its war bitches.....Josh S.

79. by Guest. 2006-03-30 06:03:25
hi team...Thanks to your info, I successfully removed SpywareQuake. I used a combination of "windows Defender Beta 2" and "Killbox" both of which are FREEEEE!! to use. I also had to do a few regestry deletes (as per your istructions) and now it has GONE FOR GOOD. Thanks again. Alistair

Yeah, almost fogot. also when I was searching on nvctrl.exe and its cure, it seems that the trojan creating this file also creates ncompat.tlb and interf.tlb under /system32/, so yeah, wonder if they do anything at all...
Btw, is there just any "free of charge" anti-spyware software that can kill this? Cuz yeah, this manual instruction is taking quite a lot out of me. considering me not too savy with computers...
