Should you trust Streamlined DIY extension?

Streamlined DIY virus is a term that is often used by people who install StreamlinedDIY browser extension. They tend to call this piece of software like that because they do not know what is the functionality of it. However, we can say that Streamlined DIY program is not a malicious one, and its functionality is fully legitimate. However, some users might find this app annoying and seek for Streamlined DIY removal instructions, so we have prepared them for people who need them. These are provided below the article.

Streamlined DIY is admitted to be a potentially unwanted program (PUP), but it does not fall into browser hijackers or adware group. We have assigned it to system tools category, and now we want to explain how it works once it gets into the computer system. First of all, it adds a browser extension to a particular web browser. This tool is compatible with Google Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer, and Mozilla Firefox browsers. This extension has several permissions, such as:

  • Read and change all your data on the websites you visit;
  • Read and change your browsing history;
  • Manage your downloads;
  • Manage your apps, extensions, and themes.

The first adjustment that this system tool does is that it sets search.myway.com as default start page. This page claims to provide search results “enhanced by Google,” however, these search results might not be related to the real Google search results at all. It appears that this search tool adds many sponsored search results above and beyond the real and unaffected results. These results can lead you to potentially dangerous websites that the developer of Streamlined DIY has no control of, so we suggest you to be careful. Beware that this extension is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, and you use it at your risk. That means that if after clicking on one of Streamlined DIY ads you will be rerouted to insecure websites, the developer of Streamlined DIY will not be responsible for whatever happens there. According to its Terms of Use document, it has no control over such websites and resources, you acknowledge and agree that “[developer] is not responsible for the availability of such external websites or resources, and does not endorse and is not responsible or liable for any advertising, products, or other materials on or available from such sites or resources.” We have a feeling that carelessly clicking on search results produced by this search tool can be a little dangerous, so we encourage you to consider using a different search engine instead of the one that this tool provides. Before changing your homepage, you will have to remove Streamlined DIY from the system.
Streamlined DIY Toolbar and search engine

Methods of distribution

Streamlined DIY Toolbar, which is advertised as “The best how-to source – all in one Chrome New Tab” can be downloaded from its official website. The user just has to click on “Click to Install – Free Download” button and agree to add a particular extension to the browser. However, sometimes potentially unwanted programs travel around the web with the help of other free applications. They are presented as “recommended” downloads that can be installed alongside user’s downloaded software, but it is important to reject such additions because typically they appear to be unwanted applications that serve third-party ads or just behave suspiciously. Therefore, you should find these additions behind Advanced or Custom installer’s settings and deselect that “I agree to install StreamlinedDIY on my homepage & New Tab” checkbox to prevent this tool from entering your system.

Recently, the developer of this program contacted us asking us to remove this post from 2-spyware.com website. We believe that we shouldn’t do that as long as programs that we offer for the removal of Streamlined DIY can detect it and help users to remove it from the system. As it is mentioned under each of download buttons, we ARE affiliated with these anti-malware programs, and while some of them are free, others can remove a virus only after purchasing them. These mentions fully fulfill each of the requirements of FTC.

Nevertheless, we have recently decided to make a revision of this and other posts that are related to this developer. We claim that all of them are described properly.
