Trojan Winlock is a trojan horse that is closely related to TDSS rootkit and other malware that has been spreading around for years in Russia. Mainly, it has been distributed in various European and Eastern countries and used by hackers to steal sensitive information and money from the user. For that, this trojan locks the system down immediately after execution and displays the alert looking like the one sent by legitimate and trustworthy organization, such as Police Central e-crime Unit or FBI. This alert also includes a phone number offering to reach the hacker and unlock your computer for a special amount of money. However, we highly recommend you NOT to give your money for scammers and remove Trojan Winlock instead.
When infected with trojan winlock, soon you will see that nothing works: you won't be capable to launch any program (security programs included), open Task Manager or Safe Mode. Instead of your normal screen, you will see Virus Bundespolizei, Virus Gendarmerie or other Police virus alert misleadingly claiming that you have violated some laws. Obviously, the goal of spreading this infection is to “kidnap” your computer by unlocking it and demand a money.
In order to unlock your computer, you must remove Trojan Winlock so run a full system scan with reputable anti-malware programs, such as the ones listed below:
