I was have trouble just like most here with this TV Media. Here is waht worked for me, off of the Microsoft Website that was posted above. I have taken the instructions and added a few notes. Good luck getting rid of this, I tried everything else posted here but this is what finally did the trick. Note: you should read the info on the Microsoft web site before doing this as you will be making mods to you registry and that can be a mess if you do the wrong thing.

To remove T.V. Media (TvMedia.tvmbho) manually, follow these steps.

Important Make sure that you follow the instructions very carefully and delete everything that is mentioned. Typically, the removal will fail if a single item is not deleted. If T.V. Media (TvMedia.tvmbho) remains on your computer after you complete the removal instructions, step through the instructions again.

Start your computer in Safe Mode.

Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.

Locate the following registry subkeys. Delete the TV Media entry for each subkey if the entry exists.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRunOnce

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRunOnce

Locate and then delete the following registry subkeys if they exist:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREClassesCLSID{707E6F76-9FFB-4920-A976-EA101271BC25}

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion Explorer Browser Helper Objects {707E6F76-9FFB-4920-A976-EA101271BC25}

Quit Registry Editor, and then restart your computer in Safe Mode.

Click Start, click Run:

Type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.

Remove T.V. Media. (It may not be there depending on what you have run while trying to remove it already)

On your desktop, double-click My Computer.

Locate the TV Media folder. By default, this folder is located in the C:Program Files folder. When you find it delete it. (If it is not there click start, search, type TV Media and click OK. Then delete the folder when found)

Restart your computer and feel the joy of having won the war on TV Media!

restart computer in safe mode... That's the F8 key during start up. Go to c:/program files and delete the folder named TV Media... Run regedit and follow this path HKey_Current_UsersSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentversionRunTVmedia and delete the start up tvmedia thingy... Restart pc and woo hoo it's gone

Unfortunately. none of the above solutions worked for my Windows XP SP2. I resovled by booting to Safe Mode DOS prompt. And deleted the TV Media files, then did a normal reboot. Uninstall via ADD/REMOVE Programs and make sure you delete any file relating to TV Media including in the recycle bin. Finally run Yahoo Companion's Anti-Spy.

I'm a tech for a corp. we run Win2k. I've tried SpySweeper and Spybot. We can't use Adaware because of licensing issues. It doesn't go away in Ad/Rem Prog. along with 5 or 6 other headache progs. We (computer users need to get together on this) and sue these people.

I have a Win2k laptop. I downloaded SpySweeper, disconnected the network connection and then ran it. That didn't work. I then rebooted the PC in safe mode and then reran SpySweeper. That seems to have got rid of it ... for now. This seems to make sense, the software knows what to do to the registry etc., it just can't do it when the PC is properly booted up. Good luck!

I have tried everything on this page to try and get rid of it (microsoft, ad aware, manual deleting in safe-mode, spysweeper) and they all failed (the microsoft auto one was the worst, said it didnt exist lol).

i found the answer on the Extreme Tech Support site, it was posted by Pingv.
this works on XP, with and without SP2

1. Open task manager, click processes tab, 'end task' explorer.exe (trust me).
2. Click new task in the applications tab in task manager and type in cmd ( to open DOS command window)
3. Type cd , then enter
4. Type cd program files , then enter
5. Type del "tv media", then enter (must have quotation marks)
6. Type rd "tv media", then enter (must have quotation marks)
7. Restart your pc and its gone!!!!

( i suggest you run ad aware (or similar) after to remove the now useless tv media registry keys, but they wont cause any trouble.

Pingv's original post can be found here http://extremetechsupport.org/forum/showpost.phtml?p=214927&postcount=8

You may notice (i have) that TV Media will replace its registry startup values if removed. If you dont kill explorer of course, this is where this wonderful piece of poo is running. You can witness this simply by deleting the value in regedit, then press F5 to refresh, and BOOM watch it re-appear in the registry instantly. These guys should be banished to an eternity of a 14.4 modem with TV media installed, and a read only filesystem!

Rather than a class-action, try multiple, simultaneous lawsuits against the company and the individuals who are personally in charge. One class action gives them a single-front war. Getting attacked from, say 20 or thirty people at once is an assault that no small company can withstand – especially if even one lawsuit manages to freeze assets and effectively stop them from spending money on more lawyers for more lawsuits. Imagine facing a lawsuit with a court-appointed lawyer!

How You Stop The Service And Remove The Software

If you decide you no longer want to receive ads or content from us all you need to do is remove all of the Software from your computer using the Add/Remove Programs menu in the Microsoft Windows control panel. The program you need to remove is named TV Media (more detailed removal instructions are also provided below and on the www.totalvelocity.com web site if you have any problem removing the Software).

Thanks for the wonderful advice from Total Velocity </sarcasm>.

If a simple uninstall worked, do you really think we would be on this site looking for help? I can remove all references to TV Media, but every time I launch IE, the TV Media folder gets created again in Program Files.

i will try the suggestions here, but wanted to say that xcleaner-free does NOT delete the folder 'TV MEDIA' - oh it removes the registry entries but without deleting the folder, the program runs as if nothing was done

All the complaining and whining about TV Media (which I agree is an insidious little piece of crap) everyone blames them for making it bahave this way...

No one has blamed Microsoft for allowing this kind of theing to work in their Operating System...

Stop TV Media and someone else will pop up doing the same thing next week.

Get Microsoft to focus on Security the way they focus on bilking the consumer and the problem goes away forever.

How do you get Microsoft to focus on Security?

Easy, Spend money on Linux instead of Microsoft and tell Microsoft that you did and why you did it. (It really doesn't matter if you USE Linux or not *but you really should try it), what matters is that you give some Linux vendor some money and that Microsoft KNOWS that some of your money went somewhere else because of their crappy security......)

Microsoft IS doing something. Check out the web site.

"Microsoft has become aware that some users are experiencing difficulties installing Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2). After investigation, some of these issues have been tracked to an incompatibility between Windows XP SP2 and an adware package from Total Velocity Corporation. This package, commonly known as T.V. Media, is bundled with certain advertisement-supported applications such as Speed Blaster and Memory Meter. In accordance with the End User License Agreement (EULA) for these applications, three additional files are installed on a user’s system; these files form the advertisement data-gathering and reporting mechanism. As part of its protection mechanism, the T.V. Media adware files monitor certain registry keys to prevent removal of the adware program. This monitoring mechanism uses certain functions in a manner that results in registry corruption during the installation of Windows XP SP2.

Microsoft has released a tool to help you remove the T.V. Media adware files from your computer. You can download this tool from the Microsoft Download Center and run it on your computer to remove the T.V. Media files. Be aware that this may result in the applications with which T.V. Media was bundled from functioning. Users should uninstall these applications before running this tool and before installing Windows XP SP2."

Look for a dll file called "mad.dll" It should be in "C:WindowsSystem32mad.dll"
Open that file in note pad and find "Tvm.exe"
Hint it is near the bottom of the file.
If you find a way to get rid of this file you will have a chance to get rid of "TV Media"

Good luck.

I found the reference to tv media in the Mad.dll file. I removed the reference to mad.dll in AppInit_DLLs like above post said. Deleted Tv Media stuff with Hijack this, deleted TV media folders. But in safe mode or in normal mode, mad.dll is in use by another process and can't be deleted. I have Win2k so it is located in C:winntsystem32

I tried SEVERAL of the above tips and had no results. Finally, I tried #21 (Above) and it worked. HOWEVER - please note - this adware hides in DIFFERENT subkey registries in various computers. So when someone tells you to go into:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREClassesCLSID{707E6F76-9FFB-4920-A976-EA101271BC25}
You may have to go into:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREClassesCLSID DIFFERENT STRING OF NUMBERS!!!!
You must have a program that identifies EXACTLY where this is hiding before you can successfully delete it completely.
Good luck - this adware is MADDENING!!!!

Well you can run but you can't hide. The current version of TVM.exe/mad.dll is self replicating and even if you remove it in safe mode, before you can close the registry editor, it has put it self back.
Try removing the mad.dll value in AppInit_DLLs then edit the value 1 second later.... It's Baaaack!!!

this is the only reliable way to remove this version:
1. boot from cd and select recovery console.
2. delete mad.dll from c:windowssystem32
3. boot to safe mode
4. run regedit and remove the reference to mad.dll
(see it stays out!!!)
5. search the registry for tvm.exe and remove the run reference in both HKLM and HKCU
6. remove the c:program files v media folder and contents.
7. empty the recycle bin
8 reboot in normal mode.
9 after 15 mins connected to the internet check to see that the tv media folder is still gone.

Comment #30 worked for me. I used a combination of that advice, hijackthis, and add/remove programs. To do #30, you just have to be sure that you kill ALL explorers including iexplorer. Just copy the instructions to notepad or something if you can't remember them.

Thanks, #30!

OK, let's face it, AdAware, and any freakin spy cleaner you get will NOT remove this freakin crap from your pc... I spent all damn day trying to figure out a sure fire way to keep it off. Becuase once you follow the steps in post #30, and even running all the damn cleaners you want, well, 10 min later, you can run regedit, and watch the junk appear again, as if it were magic. Frustrating, isn't it?! Before I go into the PERMANANT REMOVAL TIPS, check out the response I got from Total Velocity when I threatened them with a lawsuit over this virus:
my 1st message-
Getting tired of this TV MEDIA BULLSHIT. I'm filing class action on your asses, including a number
of individual lawsuits, this is a result of your virus like software that's tracking my EVERY move
on the net. It's called invasion of privacy. Best regards, Michael

their response-

can cause serious
problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. We cannot

resulting from incorrect use of Registry Edit, Windows Command Prompt or Safe

- Select Start -> Run and type: del "%ProgramFiles%TV Media"

Press ENTER

- Go to Add/Remove programs and remove “TV Media

- Restart your computer

NOTE* This does NOT get rid of the pest. It is a mere attempt at soothing frustrations over the drama it creates. Here's my 2nd email from "support"-
Michael,

It is possible that after you delete the program, one of our distribution partners is reinstalling
it on your machine, which is a violation of our agreement with them. We are currently
investigating the situation with our distribution partners and we hope this problem will be
resolved shortly. It does not help us to have our advertisements shown to people who do not want
to see them.
Furthermore, we are working on an application that should be ready for full release by the end of
November that will remove T.V. Media from your computer and not allow it to be downloaded to your
computer again, regardless of the software it is bundled with. I realize this does not solve your
problem immediately, but I have put you on the list to send out the application once it is ready
for release. Please be assured we are working to resolve issues like this and we will have a
solution available shortly.
I apologize for any inconvenience.

PRETTY LAME *and he sounds worried... LOL
So here's my response to that one-
Screw that noise, buddy... I've done this... Simply by going to cmd after ending explorer.exe,
and deleting thru DOS, then the registry, then restarting... But anyhow, it comes back 10 minutes
later. I NEVER ACCEPTED any agreement as far as any 3rd party software is concerned. I've noticed
that when I visit certain websites that this "slick" software is installed. I may have accepted
terms of agreement with that particuliar website, but this software of yours has only recently been
"forced" onto my computer. That's your "slick" way of saying that someone has accepted any user agreements. I have about 100 or more people, which is all it requires, ready to
file lawsuit against you guys. Let's see how ya like them apples.

HMMM... Yes, I was angry... LMAO!
Here's the SOLUTION, but let's still gang up on them and sue some so-called corporate asses!
When you follow the guidelines in step 30, be sure to delete ANY remaining Files left in the TV media folder left in Prog Files, but DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT delete the empty folder... Instead, right click the empty folder *while running safe mode, and select properties... What you want to do here is write protect the folder so that it cannot be written into or accessed by anyone or any program, save the settings, restart, then when the slick ass program tries to dump crap back into it, you'll have it beat. The clincher is the write protect. The program knows NO other way into the folder, and CANNOT create another folder as a replacement.
Also, you'll want to go to this link for a free virus scan... TRUST ME FOLKS, I use Norton 2003, and this site picks up more stuff than Norton could dream of. It's: http://www.housecall.trendmicro.com/
Select the options for the FREE virus scan, AND removal of any objects. You'll have to downlad a small definition file, and something else... But it works REALLY well... You'll find alot of trojans in your temp folder, and need to delete those if this scan can't do it for ya...

Anyhow, I REALLY hope thishelps anyone as I now can breathe easier knowing that I have found the ONLY URE FIX for this crap... once you do HINT#30, just go into safe mode, do NOT delete the TV Media folder, because trust me, the crap will reappear on ya! Just make sure the TV Media folder in Prog Files is empty, and while in safe mode, right click the folder and write protect it... It worked for me in XP, and this was only after using HINT#30. The combination of these two will get RID of it for good.
Other helpful links: www.housecall.trendmicro.com/
It'll find more viruses than Norton EVER could, and be sure to note how many trojans you house in your temp folder. Hmmmm email me with regards in how to remove. Same addy as the guy above, cuz that guy is ME!

Michael,

It is possible that after you delete the program, one of our distribution partners is reinstalling it on your machine, which is a violation of our agreement with them. We are currently investigating the situation with our distribution partners and we hope this problem will be resolved shortly. It does not help us to have our advertisements shown to
people who do not want to see them.

I have about 100 or more people, which is all it requires, ready to file lawsuit
against you guys. Let's see how ya like them apples.

The mailing address isn't hard to find, I mean, here it is:

Mailing address:
Total Velocity
11301 West Olympic Blvd. #554
LA, CA 90064

So I'm surprised that someone in the Los Angeles ( I'm in San Jose ) area doesn't wait for them and beat the crap out of one of them.
