Severity scale:Vista Anti-Virus 2011 severity is 65  (65 / 100)

Vista Anti-Virus 2011 is a rogue anti-spyware program that uses false scan results, fake infections, and fake security alerts to scare you into purchasing the software. Vista Anti-Virus 2011 will be configured to start automatically when you log on into your computer. Once running, it will automatically simulate a system scan and list a variety of infections. The rogue program will claim that it cannot remove those supposed infections unless you first purchase the software. This is a scam in the first place, please don't purchase it! The reported threats either don't even exist or are absolutely harmless. Please read the removal guide below and find out how to remove Vista Anti-Virus 2011 virus from your computer.

The most annoying thing about Vista Anti-Virus 2011 is not the fake security alerts but self-protection techniques. That's right, the rogue program blocks all legitimate anti-virus and anti-spyware programs and even not security related ones. Additionally, it will also block Task Manager and other useful tools that can be used to remove this rogue program. As for fake notifications and security alerts then those are fairly common: fake Windows Security Center, fake pop-ups, firewall alerts and etc. The rogue program hijacks Internet Explorer and displays fake security messages when browsing the Web. If you find that your computer is infected with this rogue program, please use the removal instructions below. We strongly recommend you to use an automatic removal tool given below.

SYMPTOMS OF rogue antispyware INFECTION

Rogue AntiSpyware virus usually imitates the legal anti-spyware software or some essential system components. Typically virus gets inside the computer with a help of trojans, that use security vulnerabilities for that. After getting inside the system, it tries to make it look like your system is infected with the numerous parasites, so it starts ‘scanning’ and finds numerous threats.

All rogue Anti-spyware along with Vista Anti-Virus 2011 have the same purpose: Get your money by using scare tactics. If you will believe that that fake threats are real and pay them money, you will not get them back even if you will ask to cancel the order in your Bank. All the infections are deceptive and you dont need to purchase their Paid version. You need to remove Rogue virus itself.

The version of this trojan I have is totally different, and none of these removal techniques seem to work. It can also totally evade the notice of both Avast and Malwarebytes

My computer was infected with this malware. I knew what it was right away....it just screamed suspicious. I made the error of clicking on the 'x' to close it hoping that would make it disappear, but it downloaded automatically to my system. and then hijacked my internet. My advice is this...one, if you encounter this, immediately power down your system without closing anything. This will prevent it from downloading. If you do end up mistakenly downloading it to your system...the above instructions are much too complicated and unnecessary. All windows systems are loaded with "system restore" options and your computer takes snapshots everyday of your system. All I did was use it to restore my system to the previous days settings and it was gone. It's really that easy.

Easy Solution Found: !!!
Ok, Ive been playing with this thin for six hours now and walked away from my system to think about it for a while. This thing has taken complete control of my PC and has rendered all windows config / edit / everything else usless. It will not allow me even in safe mode and as admin to do a system restore. I kept trying all angles then BING it just hit me! We are all so use to doing system restores from the menu and allow these files to lock us out. So here is what i did bc nothing above helped me. I simply just restarted the sytem and hit the F8 key. When the prompt pops up it gives you all the different start up options and the one that i forgot about was System Restore! picking system restore here allowed windows to run only what was needed and nothing more to do its job in restoring my files. there for all the crap programs stood no chance in starting up. I restored to 3 days earlier and i am happy to report it worked with out incident. Im clean!!
I also think someone needs to go after these thugs and bring them to justice.

yups that basted just shook my world, i thought i was totally screwed, i knew it was BS right off the bat, but i could not do anything, it was hard just trying to open the control panel and everything else, it would just keep popping up,

But lucky i found this page on my other computer and it fixed the problem.
Thanx you so much for having this here, that has to be one of the worst things i ever seen.
So always be cautious folks, you never know where you may get snagged with something.

I started receiving the pop ups this morning with the dire warnings. Fortunately I just clicked them all off with the presumption something was not right. I updated Spybot and ran it and the first time it found about 21 malware objects. I run Spybot about every 3rd day and its been forever since it identified malware....until today. I let Spybot remove the malware objects and then shut the system down. On startup Spybot ran again and seemingly found my machine clean. So far, so good.

I found this site after the fact when trying to research how I may have stepped in that stuff.
