Note also that the MS Defender link in the Other Programs sections is really outdated because this program has been superseeded by a new MS utility called Ms Security Essentials. See http://www.microsoft.com/it-it/security_essentials/default.aspx.
Note tha if yf you install Defender and then try to update his definitions, it points now you to the download the new tool instead, it will no more update; but Defender download page on Ms has not been updated to reflect this, wich is very bad.
Also note that if you go ahead then and do install Security Essentials over preceding installation of Defender, you get a remaining fake installation of Defender still on the system that is deactivated and unusable but not removable anyway from the system, and that is very very bad (seen on Windows Xp).
As a suggestion, make sure always tu uninstall Defender first before installing the new Security Essentials.
