Pest Capture

Pest Capture, also known as PestCapture, is a corrupt anti-spyware program that uses ridiculous false positives as goad to purchase.

We have carefully tested this program on absolutely clean computer that was never infected with spyware, adware or any other parasites. However, Pest Capture managed to identify 83 malicious objects related to 3 different parasites - AdwarePopuper, Trojan VX 11 and Complexel Trojan.

Further analysis revealed that absolutely all so-called threats were actually harmless components of the Windows operating system and installed fully legitimate software. For instance, files msvcr71.dll and Plugin.dll are necessary components of Google Earth, Adobe Photoshop, Prevx1, Microsoft Office and VMWare, and have no relation with Trojan VX 11. The mac.exe file is a part of Monkey's Audio, readme.html belongs to the ZoneAlarm firewall, and update folders found in multiple places are used by Windows and Java software. We have also used Pest Capture to scan a badly infected machine in order to find out whether this program is able to identify real parasites, or not. Results are very disturbing. The so-called spyware remover couldn't find any of pre-installed pests at all. Not even a single widely spread and well-known parasite like Surf SideKick, Internet Optimizer, SpyFalcon, SaveNow or Mirar! The only threats Pest Capture could find were AdwarePopuper and Wild Trojan Dropper. It should be noted that the application didn't provide their exact location. This makes us think that mentioned threats are also false positives.

The program refuses to remove any malware it finds and asks to purchase the full version.

Pest Capture is a clone of Spy Sheriff, Brave Sentry, SpywareNo!, SpyDemolisher, Spyware-Stop and Pest Trap. All these programs share almost the same spyware definitions database, produce similar scan results and have identical interfaces. Furthermore, these rogue products consist of terribly similar components.
