The desktop.exe file is installed and used by Backdoor.SdBot.md Trojan. It also runs as a malicious process with the same name, and is a dangerous threat to your system. Its main functions include giving the intruders access to your computer, making it possible to remotely control it.

Several variations of desktp.exe usage exist with the main being the Backdoor.SdBot.md version. Other versions include FFIsearch Spyware (responsible for stealing private data) and Harnig (malicious adware). Regardless of desktop.exe version, it should be completely removed once detected.
