FakeVimes is a family of rogue antivirus programs. Firstly spotted in February, 2012, this group of rogues is based on TrojanDownloader:Win32/FakeVimes which tends to attack poorly protected systems. As soon as it downloads FikeVimes components, Trojan sets the system to display fake alerts and scanners reporting about malicious programs detected. This family of programs additionally offers to purchase illegitimate security software. All programs that belong to this family share identical GUI and also use the same alerts expected to make users concerned about their PCs’ security. Typically, FakeVimes members are active for no more than 5 days.Security experts report that FakeVimes family has been particularly popular among Internet criminals and it is expected to grow in the future.
