10 years ago hackers were mainly just hobbyists, but nowadays they’ve been replaced by sophisticated criminals, who can get in your system without you even noticing it. This can be done in many ways, which get more and more complex, and complexity is certainly the worst enemy of security. With technology rapidly becoming faster and more complex, it’s getting harder to keep the wolf from a door. For example, there are worms, so sophisticated it can only be taken down manually, that means finding the people responsible.
And yet, despite all concerns, internet security continues to sell hard. And it’s even more difficult to put the price on today’s security products, because there are dozens of them, compared to four or five ten years ago. This is why companies make tradeoffs, which often result in security failures.
