What is MakeMeCoupon?

Even though MakeMeCoupon promises to find coupons that are active on the Internet at the time of browsing, we cannot cheer you by saying that it will help you save money this way. Since it’s not a serious computer threat; therefore, it cannot reach your PC’s operating system. It’s access is limited to web browsers (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari); however, as soon as it hijacks them, you browsing may be seriously disrupted. Your web browser may work slower that it used to, you may receive various forms of commercial advertisements on every website that you visit whereas continuous redirects to unknown websites may bother you to death. However, the main reason why security experts urge people to remove MakeMeCoupon virus is the risk of redirects to suspicious or really unsafe websites after clicking on one of the MakeMeCoupon ads. It seems that third parties insert links to both reliable and suspicious websites into advertisements that this program generates. Therefore, in terms of ‘Ads by MakeMeCoupon’, it’s a kind of lottery because you can never known which one will reroute you to a reliable website and which will force you to visit contaminated websites. In addition to that, similarly to other adware-type programs, this dubious add-on may also be used for spying on the users and collecting non-personal information related to their browsing habits. Such activity is not illegal or malicious; however, it can be associated with privacy violation because users’ permission is usually not asked for gathering and sharing data. If you do not want to receive suspicious content and disclose data about you every time you browse the web, you should initiate a full system check with a decent anti-spyware such as Reimage and eliminate MakeMeCoupon virus right away. In case this adware affected your machine, which is running Mac OS X, we recommend using Webroot SecureAnywhere AntiVirus.

How can MakeMeCoupon hijack my computer?

MakeMeCoupon is not a popular app that would be likable among Internet users. In most of the cases, Internet users get acquainted with it after installing it unconsciously and looking for the ways how to get rid of it. Since it is usually promoted via other freewares and sharewares, security experts have also categorized it as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and warn that you should be more careful when installing free programs on your machine. Be extra careful with Installrex, Amonetize, Vittalia installers because they are by far the most commonly used for promoting adwares, browser hijackers, and other PUPs. In addition to that, avoid Quick or Basic installation as it may install ‘optional downloads’ without disclosing them to you. In contrast, opt for Advanced/Custom installation and deselect check boxes claiming that you agree to install suspicious add-ons or plug-ins. If MakeMeCoupon redirects and ads are bothering you every time you start browsing, make sure that you deal with these issues by removing PUPs from your machine.
